So yesterday when a FedEx van pulls into the drive way I thought it was odd.  I went outside to see if the driver needed directions. Before I can ask him If he was lost he says.. “Are you Mr… Garcia?” I hesitated, because I haven’t purchased anything that would need FedEx to deliver, but said yes. He pulls out a big box and hits the road to his other drop offs.. I didn’t know if it was a bomb or anthrax. I opened it up and there waiting for me was a 2011 Imac that journeyed all  the way from San Francisco. The woman had purchased this bad boy a week earlier and surprised me with an early, or late, Christmas present. It took me a minute to figure out how to turn it on.. I am no longer PC. . I am MAC…

I’m not the type of person to get scarred when watching a scary movie. I’m one of those people that feel I have seen worse stuff in my dreams or in a delusional state of mind. I must have been half asleep but one night a few years ago I heard breathing in my mom’s empty house. I was alone but felt as though someone was with me staring at me. I ran out of the house and after an hour I went back to turn all the lights on.  So when I see some goofy looking monster jump at the screen it really has minimal effect on me. I was watching the shinning last night with my girlfriend and I got scarred. We never even got to the end of the movie. It was about halfway through and strange things started happening in our apartment. There are some cats that live on top of our building and just decided it would be fun to make the worst noise in the world. Have you ever heard cats fighting? It scares me more than anything.. Then a light in the kitchen turned on while we were both in the living room. All I could do was laugh because it was so creepy. We turned the movie off because we had to get up early but we will finish it tonight. To make my point we fell asleep afraid of the dark and left the light on. Yeah, I’m a chicken I sleep with a night light. Once I start thinking of the things that go bump in the night, I don’t stop. My mind comes up with some scary stuff and eventually I cant fall asleep. I figured it is time for me to write a scary story and film it. I plan on filming it so once I get it all figured out I’ll attempting to make a movie.  Be prepared…  Zek

“What you lookin’ at? You all a bunch of fuckin’ assholes. You know why? You don’t have the guts to be what you wanna be. You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your fuckin’ fingers and say, “That the bad guy.” So…what that make you? Good? You’re not good. You just know how to hide–how to lie. Me, I don’t have that problem. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say goodnight to the bad guy! Come on. The last time you gonna see a bad guy like this again, let me tell you. Come on. Make way for the bad guy. There’s a bad guy comin’ through! Betta get outta his way!” Scarface.

This has got to be one of the best scenes in a movie I have ever seen. Director Brian De Palma and Al Pacino did an amazing job with this movie. Every time I hear this speech I take a deep breath, and feel like a bad guy. This is inspiring in a number of ways mainly because Tony is just a bad a** character. This speech is a classic because no matter what decade we are in or where we are someone is going to point their finger at you. You have to stand up and be who you want to be no matter what. This is my favorite scene in any movie. The dialogue is perfect and the acting is at its best. One of these days I’m gonna have a few drinks in one of those classy joints and say these lines, I hope security doesn’t arrest me. What’s your favorite encouraging speech or part in a movie that just makes you wanna get up and make a change or take charge. Movies make us think, they let us know we can be who we want to be, they inspire.. I love movies. Let me know what you think…

I just said this in my last post and I have to say I have the best tool I ever had! Yesterday while messing around with an old Sony Mavica and a cheap “HD” camcorder I was presented with something that’s just amazing. The picture of my girlfriend and my dog were taken with the Sony. My lovely girlfriend decided to buy my a Christmas present in the middle of July. It’s a short story as well as an adventure! We woke up early Saturday July seventeenth, today is the eighteenth. So yesterday I was taking pictures in my boxers when I was told we were going on a little ride to her work. We got ready and took off, little did I know I was going half way to Mexico! We got on the freeway that takes us to her job but passed the building she works in. I know something was in store but not quite sure what it was. Two hours later we ended up in Sierra Vista. Crazy right? We were headed to a small building that looked like a miniature mall, and it was. i don’t know if you have ever been there but it’s a small city. So we walk up to the Cinema, which only has ten screens, the biggest in the city. We got tickets for the new twilight movie Eclipse. That’s a whole other topic though. So since I’m crazy as well and have this huge social phobia my nerves started to act up and I got a little sick. Nothing a large slice of pizza cant fix with some soda. Finally, we enter best buy. At this point I start to get excited and cant wait to get what I had no idea what was coming to me. We walk up to the counter a pre ordered camera waits for me to get my hands on it. This is not just any camera, its a Canon t2i DSLR that I have had my eye on for the last few months. This is the most expensive camera I have ever had my hands on. I’m so excited that I almost lost my breath. Social phobia was acting up as well as excitement. I get in the car and open it up like it was some type of drug, which it is, to me. As I’m admiring the beauty of this little guy the car starts to slow down and then come to a complete stop. What is going on. I’ll tell you, Border Patrol! They have check points all around because we are so close to Mexico. So I think everything is fine until i reach into my pocket and realize I don’t have my wallet!! Take care of the camera I say to my lovely Lizeth. I thought I going to be detained and sent to Costa Rica. But that’s not the case, because we had my school I.D. and a convincing story about a hard to get camera in Sierra Vista. They checked my social and we were outta there! i had to change my. . . Socks when we got home. Before we got home a strange thing happened. Out of no where a storm made it self present and man was it bad. We almost had to pull over. We haven’t  seen any rain and out there in the middle of no where hurricane Catrina’s little cousin shows up. All joking aside it was scary, we could barley see in front of us. We finally made it home and the first thing I did was take a snapshot before the battery died. Just enough time for one picture. Hollywood is a place where every filmmaker wants to end up. That’s the truth don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. A basketball player wants to go to the NBA and a football player wants to go to the NFL, that’s just how it works. In the beginning, when it all starts, the cheap worn out stuff is what gets us by. From using a two dollar basketball or a Nerf football. In my case it was a picture camera from 1998. It had been ten years old before I got a hold of it. What I found out was, the content of my videos was more important to anyone rather than the camera. I spent a good deal of time writing and coming up with shots to create what I did. While on the internet I’ve realized everyone is a “Filmmaker.” They have the biggest and best cameras out there from the Red camera to the best video camcorders around. They create great looking images but when it all comes down to it cameras are just a tool. I’m not talking about everyone out there because I’ve seen some good stuff but most people need to work on their talent, instead of lenses, magic bullet looks, and the Cinema look. In the past few weeks I have decided not to worry about if my videos look Hollywood. The simple truth is I’m not in Hollywood and right now I don’t want to be. I want to learn my craft in my own way doing things I want to do. I’m not going to take orders from someone who sits at the office while I work my tail off.  If  I can create “something out of  nothing” then I believe I can make it. I want to work on the story and world of film making to be the best I can be. So if my stuff doesn’t look Hollywood enough for anyone, that’s too bad!! That was a joke.. At the end of the day the only thing you know and remember from motion pictures are the images. You remember the characters and the journey they take. We all feel when we watch movies. No matter what you feel the feelings are there, good or bad. That is what matters to me. Its what matters to most of us because that’s all we talk about. It could be “don’t let go Jack” from Titanic. Or “Phone home” from E.T. “Luke, I am your father.”  We don’t talk about  cinema scope, Panavision cameras, or lenses. We talk about movies and that’s what I hope to  give anyone willing to watch passion happening right before their eyes. We all have to start somewhere so, this is Zek, starting somewhere.  Thanks for reading..

While looking for some tutorials on cameras and trailers in you tube I discovered something. I found a video about a new project I can participate in. Its called life in a day.  Ridley Scott is going to produce this movie and  Kevin MacDonald is the director. Basically its anything from anyone on July 24 2010. They want us to capture what its like in our lives in 2010. The winners will be in the final video and taken to the largest film fest in the U.S. the Sundance festival. I’m not usually the one that jumps on the band wagon in such a hurry but this seems like too much fun. i would love for my footage to be in the final video but I have the worst luck I can get. This film has inspired me to join the party and start a documentary on me. July 24th just happens to be the day I start filming my movie, again.. So I’ll document everything from the point of when I wake up till my last actions of the day. If I like the feel of it I might just film the whole process. I can barely juggle the movie so I’ll still have to think about that. This will be my first mini documentary and will very personal. By the end of the video you will know that I’m more than just a Jedi. You will know the real me. I hope I don’t disappoint and I hope I’m interesting enough to watch. The thought of being followed by a camera and showing who I really am sounds eerie. I cant let an opportunity like this one pass by. So wish me luck, pray for me, and leave a comment. This particular story is really good but is always swept under the rug. To some its nothing more than looks and style. If you can guess what it is before you read the end then you are cool. If not, well your still cool don’t sweat it. There are many details and some I’ll miss but I’ll do my best. So here it is.

It all starts with a boy. This boy has extra ordinary gifts. While using one of his gifts for good he shows he will have more power than anyone would know. A man fights for him and saves him from slavery. That man is to be his mentor but the law doesn’t allow it. As the boy gets older and wiser he starts to think for himself. The ways of his elders confuse him, and they just cant find it in themselves to trust him. He is treated like a child and never given responsibility to prove he is worthy to his elders and himself. Corruption is in everyone’s eyes  as well as lies and distrust. The boy questions his faith in what he believes in because from his point of view the ones he trusts are breaking the rules. And the ones he has doubt with believe in him more than anyone else. The stars revealed that this person would bring happiness and rid the universe of all evil. After killing one of his elders for not living by the code he changes. For the one he had doubt with could give him the only thing he wants most in this world, his wife. He has a new elder to learn from, he has a new point of view, and a new goal. In his eyes the evil ones will suffer and he will be the new dictator for he knows best. In his lust for freedom, and control his own actions makes him lose the ones he loves most. And for his own actions he loses himself. The stars were misread because his son not him would change the universe. The phantom menace has been defeated. The clone wars are over.  The sith had their revenge. But a new hope has been found, even as the empire strikes back. And you all know, the return of the Jedi has brought balance back to the force. Luke, The story is about Darth Vader, he is your father…..

Exciting stuff right? I think the light sabers, space, and crazy looking people are what makes people not pay attention to the story. Light sabers are kick ass I want one but that’s what people see. They don’t talk about the story. Star Wars is more than lights, fights and space ships. Star Wars is a crazy father son sister drama. That just happens to be a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I think Darth Vader is the coolest bad guy he thinks being bad is good and doesn’t even have any limbs. No child support from him.

Okay, now I have your attention. Over the past millennium or two we have been destroying what we love, mother nature. And for some reason it keeps getting worse. I’m not one hundred percent positive but pretty sure it has to do with money and greedy people. We can build a computer with all kinds of gadgets and gizmos but we cant build a completely electric car with no strings attached, or wires. I’ve seen the inside of cars and even swallowed some oils. The cars we drive now seem to get more complicated. And the oil spill in Florida, why don’t these billionaires know what to do? Because money is too valuable and the land we live on is not precious enough. So for the next few weeks I’m making it my business to find out some solutions to clean up and take care of this place we All call home. My cousin is going to A.S.U. and taking classes in Sustainability so that’s where most, if not all of my knowledge will come from. Everyone knows they have to recycle and throwing trash in the garbage. But for some reason it happens every day, trash is on the floor or not where it supposed to be. There are too many people whom preach about stuff like this rather than do something about it. I don’t like to complain but this issue is way too big not to. I also don’t like to preach, especially if I don’t follow what I say. What I’ve decided to do is go on a mission to find some funds and embark on a quest to clean up a few cities. Yeah I said Cities. Now I cant give all the details just yet but that’s the gist of what will be happening in the next few months. I will talk with the pros about the plan and eventually execute it. I am also going to be documenting this with hopes of reaching out to more people and show our hard work. I hope to inspire more people as well. If we can make a difference then that will make the powers that be open their eyes and cause more change. That’s the goal to start change in the way we view Earth and clean it up.. Zek

The Toy Story movies are something everyone’s heard about. The third to the trilogy just came out and it was worth paying thirty bucks for those funny 3d glasses that give me a headache.. It was just as fun and exciting as the first and second. To be honest I didn’t even want to  go watch it. I thought this movie was going to ruin the whole thing, but I was wrong. The movie starts off with a monkey killing blast, literally, and stays strong till the end credits.  The story was as good as the first and the writers didn’t try to compete with the original. They did it this time with the ending. I  had to skip a few laughs because I was trying to keep my manliness while my girlfriend was crying a river. There has been a load of movies coming on screen that don’t belong but Toys Story three is not one of them. It’s definitely one to watch and one to add to my DVD collection when it comes out.

On another note my movie is behind schedule but that was to be expected. Now that my actors know whats its like to actually work with each other I think when we start up again it will be a lot smoother. It will be done in no time..   Ezekiel

I know everyone thought I was gonna role out the red carpet and bring out the champagne, but that’s not the case. I’m not Hollywood so nothing I have is first class. I’m using cheap cameras, borrowed light kits, and family members as crew. Not that my family is low class or anything but they aren’t Bradley Cooper or Sandra Bullock. I’m having problems every production has. From actors not showing up because they have a hot hand at poker, to cameras not working. “Sorry about your camera Anthony, it will be saved.” I worked through head aches no one ever knows we filmmakers have and kept going. The week ended on a good note and Filming will continue. Saturday is day 1, I hope everyone shows up. I will be using a camera cheaper than an Ipod and lights that only have one setting, Too bright! This is where greatness is found and talent  is revealed. Smoke and mirrors are a must because it takes real passion to give something a pulse that is never given the time of day to begin with. After everything said I’m on schedule and under budget, if I had one. The movie will be ready in no time… Zek
